Envy noun - a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck. Greek phthonos (displeased at anothers gain) synonyms: jealousy, covetousness For Kids The word "envy" is a feeling of anger and frustration when somebody else has something we wish we had. It is different than coveting which is wanting what someone else has. Envy focuses on a person rather than a thing, and it takes pleasure in that person's misfortune. The Bible identifies envy as a fruit of the flesh and a byproduct of a relationship with this world. Jesus promised that he would transform our hearts and change us from the inside out. Ask God today to show you where you might be envying somebody for some possession or anything else that is making them happy. Seek the Lord and let his love fill you, and say these words "less of me and more of him." |
